A bathroom remodel in Rockland County can be the whole room or just the part that has worn out — a shower remodel, a tub replaced by a walk-in shower, a new floor or vanity. Either way, what decides how long it lasts is what sits under the tile: tile and grout are not waterproof on their own, and the membrane behind them is what keeps water out of the wall and the ceiling below. We remodel and repair bathrooms in New City, Pomona, Monsey, Nanuet and across the county, with plumbing and electrical work done by licensed plumbers and electricians. If it is already leaking into the room below, the source is found before anything is rebuilt. You get a written estimate before work begins.

A stain on the ceiling under a bathroom is a reason to remodel carefully, not quickly. If new tile goes in before anyone knows where the water came from, the leak can stay behind the new wall — and the ceiling below stains again, this time under a bathroom that was just redone. Before any demolition, find where the water comes from — see Water Stain on the Ceiling. Once the source is known, its fix becomes part of the remodel plan: a failed shower pan is rebuilt as part of the job, while a drain or supply line is repaired by a licensed plumber. The ceiling below is closed last, after moisture readings show the framing above it is dry.
Worn grout and cracked caulk are a repair as long as the tile behind them is solid. Tap the tiles: if they sound hollow, move when pressed, or the wall feels soft near the tub or shower, water has been getting behind them for some time, and fresh grout will not fix that — that section comes out down to the backer board and is rebuilt with waterproofing. The same goes for a floor that flexes, or tiles near the toilet that keep cracking. A partial remodel makes sense when the problem stays in one part of the room; when the shower, the floor and the vanity are all failing, a full renovation is often the simpler path than three separate repairs.
Taking out a tub for a walk-in shower is a common change, and a few choices are easier to make before the old tub comes out:
Every bathroom is different, but the work moves through the same stages. Work days are Sunday through Thursday, 7am to 7pm, and Friday, 7am to 1pm; there is no work on Saturday. If this is your only bathroom, say so at the first visit, so the order of work can be planned around it.
