Orange County: renovation and leak diagnosis
Kitchen remodeling in Orange County, NY: cabinets, countertops, backsplash and floors
A kitchen remodel is a chain of decisions more than a single job: cabinets, countertops, backsplash, floor — and the order they happen in. We install the cabinets, countertops, tile and floor, and the trim that finishes the room. The appliances are chosen before the cabinets are ordered, the countertops are measured from cabinets that are already set, and nothing comes out of the old kitchen until the new parts are on their way.

What the work includes
- Cabinet installation: boxes set level and square and fastened into the wall framing, even where the floor or walls are not straight
- Countertop installation, measured from the installed base cabinets so the tops fit the walls as they are
- Backsplash tile laid out around the window and the range hood, so the cuts land where they look right
- Kitchen flooring — tile, wood or vinyl plank — with the subfloor leveled before anything is laid
- Partial updates: new countertops and backsplash on cabinets you keep, or one run of cabinets replaced
- Filler panels, trim and the paint that finishes the room
What to decide before we start
- Appliances, by model — cabinet widths, the refrigerator opening and the hood all depend on exact sizes
- Whether the sink, range and refrigerator stay where they are — moving them is work for licensed trades, planned before the cabinets are ordered
- The countertop material, and how long you can manage without a counter between the cabinets going in and the tops being set
- Whether the new floor runs under the cabinets or stops at them
- Where you will cook and wash dishes while the kitchen is out of use
New cabinets, or keep the ones you have?
If the cabinet boxes are solid, the layout works and the doors close straight, new countertops, a new backsplash and new hardware can change the kitchen without tearing it out. Stone and quartz tops are heavy, so the old boxes have to be level and sound to carry them. Replacing the cabinets makes sense when the boxes are particleboard that has swollen, the drawers keep coming apart, or the problem is the layout itself. Look under the sink first: a swollen or stained cabinet floor there usually means a slow leak, and its source is found before new cabinets go in on top of it.
